I Still Love my Toyota Prius: Here's Why

When Toyota’s reputation as a trusted auto-maker came under fire,  it was like seeing a giant redwood falling in the forest.  It was even more shocking when the brand’s golden goose, the Toyota Prius, was recalled by the thousands.

Even I had my problems with my Prius' breaks but it turned out to be a minor fix on some new technology attached to the breaking system.  A minor flaw in the American made parts caused issues in some cars.  But I appreciated that Toyota found a fix immediately and called in the cars needing it.  I haven't had any issues since.















In spite of its problems, for those of us who own a Toyota, there continues to be a sense of pride in ownership; when you own a Prius, the feeling is even stronger. Something about this car makes you feel good.  Maybe it’s the idea that you are doing something beneficial for the planet; or that it's a great drive; and maybe it is simply that the Prius is bar none – one of the most fuel-efficient and space-efficient hybrids on the market - (Edmunds.com).

The first Toyota Prius rolled off the manufacturer’s assembly line and into dealer stores in Japan in 1997 and entered the US market three years later championed by the Sierra Club, the nation’s oldest and largest environmental organization.  That first model racked up award after award and the electric/gas hybrid system was named one of the “10 Best Engines in 2001” by Ward’s Auto World Magazine.

Toyota has continued to make improvements on the car’s hybrid and interior design every year.  In 2009 when I decided to go shopping for a car, the Prius was one of three cars I seriously considered owning.  More...
